Who invented Hershey and when was Hershey founded?
Hershey was founded by Milton Snavely Hershey in 1894. However, his love for candy-making developed long before he established The Hershey Chocolate Company. However, the famous Hershey name would not be what it is today without its trials and tribulations.
At the age of 14, Milton Hershey began his four-year long apprenticeship with master confectioner Joseph Royer. He then went to build his first candy business which unfortunately ended in bankruptcy. Thankfully, for us chocolate-lovers, that didn’t stop Milton Hershey from pursuing his dreams. Milton sold his very first Hershey bar by the end of the 18th century. By 1905, factory construction was completed allowing for a mass production of what was once a luxury item into an affordable accessible treat that is Hershey’s milk chocolate today.
